Toni Bewley

Honorary lecturer Liverpool University, adjunct professor Manipal College of Nursing, India

Toni has dedicated over 25 years to teaching in Higher Education as a children’s and adult nurse. A significant part of her career has involved connecting student nurses from India with those in the UK and her passion lies in ensuring the voice of the patient, service user, or carer is integral to the education of health and social care students.

For over a decade, Toni led the service user and carer group at Edgehill University, an experience that was both a privilege and recognised by being shortlisted in various categories of the Student Nursing Times awards. Toni is a firm advocate of the principle ‘Nothing about me without me,’ which she believes is crucial in both clinical practice and educational settings. Students often remember stories shared by patients and carers, which helps them provide personalised, person-centred care. After many years of full-time work, Toni now shares her expertise in collaborative approaches to involve service users in her work and serves as a clinical advisor for young people with complex needs, particularly during their transition from children to adult services.
