Advanced headache nurse practitioner, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Susie Lagrata is an Advanced Headache Nurse Practitioner and Lead Nurse at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Adult Nursing at Wesleyan University, Philippines, in 1996 and moved to the UK in 1999. She has undertaken numerous postgraduate education, including the Master of Headache Disorders at the University of Copenhagen.

Susie won in the 2022 RCN Award in recognition of the pioneering nurse-led headache services she established in the UK. In 2024, she also received the Best Scientific Presentation Award at an international meeting in Belgium and is a finalist for the 2026 Nursing Times Nurse of the Year Award.

She is currently a member of the NICE Headaches Guideline CG150 Update Committee and the International Headache Society's Education Committee. She is Secretary of the British Association for the Study of Headache (BASH), a Board Member of the International Forum for Headache Nurses, and Public Relations Officer of FNA-UK.

Susie has presented extensively at national and international conferences and has authored and co-authored numerous scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals over the past 18 years. She is also a guest lecturer at London South Bank University.

She was co-project lead and co-author of the first RCN Headache Nurses Competency and Education Framework in the UK, published in December 2025, supporting the development and standardisation of specialist headache nursing practice nationally.
