Samson Ossai
Digital clinical safety officer, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
Samson is a Critical Care Nurse by background, with a strong passion for improving patient care outcomes and advancing a culture of safety and risk management in healthcare through digital transformation. He is also committed to enhancing workforce sustainability, staff retention and professional development. He currently serves as a Digital Clinical Safety Officer at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board.
Samson is a qualified Professional Nurse Advocate and previously served as the Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement Lead at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Trust, where he led the implementation of trust-wide PNA services. In this role, he established a robust framework for staff education and training, provided compassionate support to staff involved in incidents or those with skills gap, and led the implementation of a range of quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing patient care outcomes.
He also served at NHS England as the Regional Chair for the Internationally Educated Healthcare Professionals Recruitment and Retention Council. In this position, he championed inclusion and diversity, empowering Black and Ethnic Minority staff across all NHS provider organisations within North East and Yorkshire to thrive in their roles through coaching, mentorship, and peer support.
In recognition of his dedication to high-quality care, system-wide improvement, staff wellbeing, and contribution to the success of the NHS at large, Samson was invited to Buckingham Palace by His Majesty King Charles for honorary recognition.
