Sam Tullett qualified as an Adult Registered Nurse (DipHE) in 2011 and completed a BSc (Hons) in District Nursing in 2014. In 2023, Sam was awarded the prestigious title of Queen’s Nurse in recognition of their dedication to patient care within community nursing.

Since qualifying, Sam has worked extensively in community nursing, with a specialism in bladder and bowel care. Their career has included roles such as Clinical Lead for BCHC Temporary Staffing, supporting the implementation of new development roles within community nursing, and leading teams as a Clinical Matron. Currently, Sam holds the position of Service Manager for Community Nursing Teams at Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (BCHC), with operational leadership of five Community Nursing Teams across Central Birmingham. These teams serve a population of approximately 233,000 and provide care to over 1,200 patients in home and clinic settings.

Sam is deeply passionate about self-care and collaborative working with patients to improve health outcomes. They are a strong advocate for the principles of the NMC Code, particularly around patient, carer, and family engagement. Sam has led the implementation and integration of the self-care model within BCHC, embedding it into everyday practice.

As a leader, Sam is committed to innovation in service delivery and workforce development, aiming to build a sustainable, future-ready community nursing service. They have completed both the QSIR (Quality, Service Improvement and Redesign) training and the Queen’s Nursing Institute Aspiring Leaders Programme, and actively promote a culture of quality improvement. Drawing on a democratic and transformational leadership style, Sam engages and motivates staff to co-create and adopt new ways of working that enhance care delivery and staff wellbeing.
