Rebecca Kenny
Head of the RCN Foundation Centre of compassionate leadership, Royal College of Nursing
Rebecca is a nurse, leader and changemaker who has spent her career championing compassionate care and empowering others to thrive in healthcare. With over fifteen years’ nursing experience, Rebecca began her career in Emergency Care, subsequently leading teams as an operational and corporate Matron, as well as being the Lead Nurse for a National Centre of Excellence. She has led through challenge and change such as workforce re-design, service transformation and pandemic preparedness, while always holding onto the values of kindness, humanity, and respect that first drew her into nursing.
Now, as Head of the RCN Foundation Centre for Compassionate Leadership, Rebecca is committed to creating a space where leaders at every level can grow, share, and reimagine what leadership looks like in modern health and care. She believes that compassion is not a “soft skill,” but the essential force that drives trust, motivation, and innovation – especially in a system under immense pressure.
Rebecca has been recognised for her ability to bring people together, nurture talent, and turn ideas into action, whether through large-scale recruitment programmes, digital transformation projects, or quality improvement initiatives. Alongside her role, she is completing an Executive MBA at Nottingham Trent University, where her research explores how digital communication and compassionate leadership interlink to strengthen the NHS for the future.
Passionate about connection, learning, and making a difference, Rebecca balances her professional life with being a proud wife and mum of two. She finds joy in travelling, cooking, and discovering new perspectives.
