Olivia Crossing
Supervisory sister, NHS clinical entrepreneur and Co-Founder of Worksights LTD, University Hospital Bristol and Weston Foundation NHS Trust
Olivia Crossing is a Registered Nurse with nine years of clinical experience, currently serving as a Sister on an acute surgical unit. A Professional Nurse Advocate and NHS Clinical Entrepreneur, Olivia is passionate about fostering psychological safety and open communication within healthcare teams to enhance staff well-being and patient care.
Growing up in a military family, Olivia experienced frequent relocations, attending ten different schools before university. This upbringing instilled a deep understanding of the importance of quickly building supportive networks to thrive in new environments—a principle she has applied throughout her nursing and leadership career. She observed firsthand that teams who feel safe to voice concerns and challenge established norms deliver higher-quality care and sustain greater engagement.
Motivated by these insights and her transition into management at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, Olivia co-founded Worksights LTD and developed RateMyShift, a digital platform enabling frontline healthcare workers to provide real-time feedback on their shifts. This innovation supports managers in identifying and addressing staff concerns promptly, promoting a culture of trust, psychological safety, and continuous improvement.
Olivia’s work has been recognised through multiple awards and nominations, including the 2021 HSJ Patient Safety Poster Competition and finalist for the Nursing Times Digital Awards 2024 and finalist for the Nursing Times Technology and Data 2025. She has also been successful in securing a Gant from the RCN Foundation in supporting Nursing innovation for RateMyShift. Her mission is to leverage technology and leadership to transform healthcare environments, improving staff retention, productivity, and patient safety through empowered, connected teams.
