Mercy Nangwale
Oncology staff nurse, Royal Stoke hospital
Mercy is originally from Malawi, Southern Africa, and now lives in Stone, United Kingdom. She is the mother of twins born in 2009, and it was the birth of her children that inspired her to become a Mentor Mother. Motivated by her own experiences of living with HIV, Mercy wanted to support and encourage other women, demonstrating that it is possible to give birth safely to HIV-negative children.
Becoming a Mentor Mother was one of the best decisions of her life and has been truly transformational. Through this work, she has met and learned from many women whose experiences have helped shape her journey as a public speaker, treatment advocate, and peer mentor.
Mercy has served as a member of the Steering Group for UK CAB, contributed as a social media blogger, and more recently took on the professional role of Social Media Correspondent for 4M Net's National Lottery Creative Project. She also continues to volunteer with the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG), serving on the Quality of Life and Combination Prevention Committees.
Alongside her advocacy and volunteer work, Mercy works as an Oncology Staff Nurse, bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to her commitment to improving the lives of people living with HIV.
