Liz qualified as a Nurse in 1995 and has worked in and around justice settings ever since as a clinician, academic, researcher, inspector, and practice developer. She has been the UK Professional Lead Nurse for Justice and Forensic Nursing at the Royal College of Nursing since July 2021, where she supports nurses and nursing practice in all areas of justice and forensic healthcare. This includes police custody, courts, prisons, youth detention, immigration and removal centres, sexual assault referral centres and secure forensic mental health services.

Liz is passionate about professional development and ensuring support for nurses working in justice and forensic settings. Her research and development activity focuses on understanding the emotional labour of working in justice and forensic settings, and the implications of it on staff and provision of compassionate practice. She promotes a multi-disciplinary approach to caring for people in justice settings and champions the use of effective reflective practice to manage the challenges of caring in these environments.
