Kokila Swamynathan
Advanced clinical practitioner, Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust
Kokila Swamynathan is a highly motivated and compassionate Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) with 26 years of experience across England and Wales. For the past 12 years, she has worked autonomously in critical care, acute, and frailty settings. She currently serves as an ACP and Non-Medical Prescriber in the Frailty Same Day Emergency Care (FSDEC) unit at Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust—one of Birmingham’s busiest services—where she leads multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, person-centred care, improve outcomes, reduce avoidable admissions, and support patients to remain at home.
Kokila has extensive expertise in diaspora leadership and global health engagement. In Wales, she held senior positions including Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Diaspora Engagement Advisor with the Global Health Partnership (formerly THET), leading the Experts in Our Midst programme. Her work successfully engaged diaspora health professionals at local, national, and international levels, influencing policy, contributing reports to the England and Wales Parliaments, and fostering collaboration among senior nurse leaders, clinicians, and policymakers.
She has played a key role in promoting equity and well-being for international nurses through the Race Equality Network and various Health Board initiatives. Nationally, Kokila contributes to the British Indian Nurses Association, the CNO Global Majority Advisory Group, and the RCN Board.
Recognised for her outstanding contribution to nursing nationally and globally, Kokila exemplifies inclusive leadership and remains deeply committed to workforce development, global health collaboration, and advancing equitable healthcare delivery.
