Gwen Moulster OBE (MA, Cert Ed, RNLD) Independent Consultant Nurse, Honorary Senior Fellow - Kingston University.
Gwen has extensive experience of person-centred working with people who have learning disabilities, families, advocates, health professionals and others to improve the quality of health experiences and outcomes. She has worked with a wide range of health needs and complexity across inpatient and community care and been influential in changing and developing services. She developed pain profiles designed to help professionals identify the likely presence of pain in people with complex communication needs.
Gwen is one of four consultant nurses who created the Health Equalities Framework (HEF and CYP HEF). Dissemination of this includes presentations and consultancy across the UK, Ireland, Australia and Finland.
Gwen created the Moulster & Griffiths model (2012) for Learning Disability nursing with Tom Griffiths (latest revision 2021). In the last few years, she has been working with a range of health organisations to support training and implementation of the model in practice.
Gwen is part of a team of consultant nurses and academics, who undertook a research project that identified the needs of people with learning disabilities related to accessing urgent and emergency healthcare. The outputs of the project include the development of a learning tool designed to increase understanding and aid effective decision making.
Gwen was awarded an OBE in Queen Elizabeth II’s 90th birthday honours in 2016, for services to people with learning disabilities and nursing.
