Gail is a Fellow of the both the British Psychological Society and the Academy of Social Sciences. She is an occupational health psychologist with extensive experience in both research and practice. Gail is a Visiting Professor at Birkbeck, University of London and an independent consultant. She works closely with the Society of Occupational Medicine, chairing its Special Interest Group in Work and Health Psychology and writing a series of well-received guides on issues of contemporary concern within work and wellbeing.

Her research focuses on improving the working conditions and wellbeing of people in emotionally demanding roles. She is currently collaborating with health and social care organisations to develop and evaluate systemic approaches to enhancing psychosocial safety, organisational resilience and employee wellbeing. Gail also has a longstanding interest in work–life balance and in understanding the personal and organisational factors that support healthy and sustainable remote working. She is involved in several research and consultancy projects in this area and regularly contributes to the development of government policy.

Gail has written numerous articles and is currently working on a series of books on wellbeing in health and social care. She serves on the editorial boards of several journals, including Occupational Medicine and the British Medical Bulletin.
