Clare Capito

Regional PNA programme lead in London, NHS England
Head of PMA programme NHS England, NHS England London Region

Clare is an experienced midwife and qualified 35 years ago and has worked in London since qualification in a variety of midwifery positions, which included being appointed in 2001 as one of the first consultant midwives in England. She also qualified as a registered nurse in 1983 but has not maintained her registration.

Clare has been involved in the development of the A-EQUIP model of midwifery supervision since its inception and one her key achievements has been to lead on the implementation of the A-EQUIP model of midwifery supervision and Professional Midwifery Advocate role in London.

In September 2021, Clare became the Regional Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) programme lead for London and supported the implementation of the PNA role in the 37 Trusts and there are currently 850 PNAs in London.

Since 2022 Clare has been leading the PMA programme from national perspective and was appointed as the first Head of the PMA programme for NHS England.

She works 15 hours per week in both these roles and believes that they complement each other, as a means to assist colleagues with their well-being and ability to improve the care for all the people that they support as midwives and nurses.
