Bianca Ysabelle Castaneda Esmeralda is a Senior Nurse in the Critical Care division at University College London Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. With 31 years of international nursing experience and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Philippines, she has made a remarkable impact on healthcare.
Armed with a distinction in Master of Science (MSc) in Leadership and Service Improvement from London South Bank University, Bianca is preparing to publish a systematic review, "Authentic Leadership and Transformational Leadership; How They Influence the Job Satisfaction of Nurses Working in an Adult Intensive Unit," aimed at transforming nursing leadership.
Her nursing journey began in Manchester in 2001, where she emerged as a leader and educator in acute medicine, and it continues to thrive at UCLH's ITU. Bianca passionately advocates for a strong patient safety framework, empowering her team through initiatives in staff retention, the Harm Free Care Committee, and the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion steering group.
As a keynote speaker, Bianca shares her lived experiences to foster a culture of safety, enriching the experiences of both staff and patients. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), she has developed impactful initiatives to support transgender staff and patients, engaging audiences within UCLH, North Central London, and nationally. Her ongoing contributions to future publications such as "Guidelines for the Care of Transgender and Gender Diverse Patients in Critical Care" and "Family-Centred Care for LGBTQ+ in ICU; A Scoping Review" exemplify her commitment as an EDI ambassador.
