Dr Alison Gregory is highly regarded researcher with specialist interests and expertise in domestic & sexual violence and abuse, trauma-informed empowerment practice, peer support, and co-production. Before setting up independently, Alison worked for 16 years as a Senior Researcher-Academic in Bristol Medical School at the University of Bristol. Her primary research interests include: (i) healthcare professionals’ own experiences of domestic abuse, (ii) enhancing informal and community-based responses to domestic abuse (by friends, family, neighbours, and colleagues), and (iii) secondary trauma in researchers and front-line workers. Alison is known and recognised internationally for her research and expertise on these topics.

Alison has conducted numerous ground-breaking studies, has published widely in international peer-reviewed academic journals, and has developed a number of evidence-based resources, including the recent Friends and Family Handbook for the Women’s Aid Federation of England website. Alison is committed to co-produced research, knowledge exchange, and real-world research impact, and has worked closely with members of the public, NHS staff, specialist D&SVA organisations, commissioners of services, and national political and policy leaders.

Earlier in her career, Alison had several NHS roles, including as a person-centred counsellor, an assistant psychologist, and a mental health therapy assistant.
