Abdelrahman Elmetwaly
Senior charge nurse (Band 7), Emergency Department, The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust
Abdelrahman is a Senior Charge Nurse in the Emergency Department at the Princess Royal Hospital, Telford, part of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, where he leads the nursing team on shift and holds clinical responsibility for recognising and escalating deteriorating patients.
He has more than seven years of nursing experience, beginning his career in Egypt before moving to the UK and working across several NHS trusts in emergency and acute care. His day-to-day practice sits where observation tools, clinical judgement and time-critical decision-making meet: triage, early sepsis recognition, and getting the right response to the patient who is quietly getting worse.
Abdelrahman is completing an MSc in Management (Healthcare Management) at Keele University and is working towards the V300 non-medical prescribing qualification, both reflecting his interest in how frontline clinical decision-making is supported by good systems and good leadership.
He is a Nursing Live 2026 ambassador and a strong advocate for a practical, non-hierarchical escalation culture that helps newer nurses trust their instincts and speak up early.
