David Williams

Head of service learning disabilities, transition, sensory and business support teams, Salford Care Organisation, Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust

David is a dedicated Learning Disability Nurse with over two decades of experience, having qualified in 2001. He currently leads a broad portfolio of services in Salford, including Learning Disability, Transition, Sensory, Learning & Development, and Business Support. Since April 2025, David has also taken on leadership of the Learning Disability Hospital Liaison Service across all Northern Care Alliance acute sites, ensuring people with learning disabilities receive safe, compassionate, and equitable care in hospital settings.

David plays a key strategic role within the Integrated Care Organisation, helping to shape inclusive services that meet the needs of individuals and communities. He’s a long-standing member of the Challenging Behaviour National Strategy Group steering group, hosted by the Challenging Behaviour Foundation, and proudly serves on the RCNi Learning Disability Practice Editorial Board.

Passionate about equity in healthcare, David champions the role of learning disability nurses in supporting individuals, families, and services to create accessible, person-centred care. His work is driven by a belief that everyone deserves the same quality of life — and that together, we can make that a reality.
